about

Another was me walking around a house (that was mine, but wasnt, you know how that goes), and I had shaved my beard, and was reading The Great American Novel by Philip Roth instead of the book Im reading now, in protest of something I didnt know.

Track Name: The Goust
I see the pattern in the trees,
in the moments before the Goust begins
(there it is now)

The pattern in the trees,
(some cans on the sidewalk)
in the moments before the Goust begins
(don't forget to lock the door)

Cosmic, by which I mean it came from above
I saw it at the end of Purple Rain—
The Kid was sitting in his Father's basement
watching his own body hang from the rafters
Yeah, It's kind of like that,
but who is this?

But of course it was me that I saw in the trees!

So then, there I went to have a secret burger
was I flirting with the waitress (who I think her name was Sara?)
I'd say "no, I was talking more."
I was still reeling from the social anxieties
I'd faced at the record store
from an old friend
or an ex-friend?
what's wrong with me!?
sometimes I wonder...

But of course it was me that I saw in the trees!

One more time, there I was
eating ice cream out of a ramikan
Midnight had just struck, which meant
it was my birthday!
I had 24 hours to do whatever
I feel like.
Like say, for instance,
put on a suit
maybe even a tie
rainbow straps
pink frilly jacket
my headphones on,
"Modern Love,"
defy my death—
Begin the GOUST!

But of course it was Me, that I saw in the trees...
Track Name: Emilie, Allison, Emilia, Etc.
he remembered the story that girl —who was it?
(it was Emilie!) —Emilie told him:
shades of faith, a stomach saved,
the Word of God and Prayer.

He cast the story out and leaned in for a kiss.
He felt her torn-up tights, the hint of white inside.
And there it was: a poem he wrote to try to raise the dead.
The girl who lied about her time,
but still he had his words they went:

"rise up and taste the fruit of the lord,
let the juices run down your mouth."

He took the chance he ran the block he hid from fear instead
the fireworks they blew a hole between his friends, he said:

"Ooh, reach out: feel something new."

But he could not, oh no, could never follow his own direction.
So he tried to make it work, he called her every night.
He did the things you do—
the things you do at seventeen.

But he wasn't fast enough, he had already forgot.

He said:

"Ooh, reach out: feel something new."
Track Name: Daddy, Buy Me A Whammy Bar
daddy, when i called home
daddy, i don't need a new girl
i don't want no ginger babies
i've already got so many friends
who deserve some attention
and anyways it was spoken
that i survive off of them

so daddy, before i come home take the money you work so hard to bring in
and buy me a whammy bar!
mine broke off, it was thrown.

i need to get down
losing my strings
bomb-drop calamity
clean sweep, he chipped a wing
it's a piece of steel
but it'll set me free
i just attache it to the front and let the fly breeze

but daddy, before i come home take the money you work so hard to bring in
and buy me a whammy bar!
mine broke off, it was thrown.

(solo should go here)

now let's just say "sure, i like the ladies"
but i don't give a fuck about acquiring no ginger babies
i just need to get home
to see whatever it is that's in those poems
and rest awhile
and rest awhile

mm hmm
